The Life of LELAND C THOMPSON

Leland Thompson, 77, of the 4100 block of East Seneca Ave. died of a heart attack Saturday at Des Moines General Hospital. The body was cremated and memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hamilton''s Near Highland Memory Gardens Funeral Home. The cremains will be interred at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Thompson was born in Blakesburg and had lived in Knoxville before moving to Des Moines 40 years ago. He had been a farmer and a welder for elevator contractors. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and he enjoyed fishing and camping. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy; three daughters, Jeanie McCarty of Florida, Sally Cline of Altoona and LouEllen Dee of Mitchellville; two sons, Raymond of Winterset and Kurt of Quincy, IL; a sister, Virginia Kimberling of Des Moines; two brothers, Lawrence of Santa Rosa, CA and Archie of Winterset; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or American Lung Association.
