The Life of VELMA MAE CANTRELL

Velma Mae Cantrell, 72, of the 7500 block of Southeast Bloomfield Road died of cancer Wednesday at Hospice Kavanagh House.  Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Southtown Funeral Home, with burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Mrs. Cantrell was born in Des Moines and had lived here most of her life.  She was the manager of M&W Gear Co. and owner of Vel''s Ben Franklin Store in Park Fair Mall. She was a member of Eagles Lodge and loved to fish.

Surviving are her husband, Richard; two daughters, Martha Moseley and Terry Shannon, two sons, Thomas Leonard and Mark Leonard, and her mother, Cordelia Otto, all of Des Moines; a stepdaughter, Rosalee Ingram, and a stepson, Alan Cantrell, both of Fayetteville, AR; two brothers, Lyman Otto Jr. of Des Moines and David Otto of Houston; a sister, Barbara McPherson of Des Moines; 13 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
