The Life of JERRY DEAN MCELDERRY

Jerry Dean McElderry, 63, of the 300 block of East Thornton Avenue died of cancer Saturday at home. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Hamilton''s Funeral Home, with burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mr. McElderry was born in Unionville, MO, and had lived in Prairie City before moving to Des Moines in 1983. He was a retired painter with Polk County General Services and a Navy veteran. He enjoyed stock-car racing and family activities. He is survived by his wife, Wanda; four daughters, Cindy Stavers of Prairie City, Brenda Rhodes of Mesa, AZ, and Rhonda McClaflin and Amy Cheers, both of Altoona; two sons, Jeff of Des Moines and jerry of Altoona; his mother, Ruby McElderry of Jacksonville, AR; two brothers, B.G. of Othello, WA, and Bob of Jacksonville, AR; three sisters, Mary Knapp and Marge Dullard, both of Jacsonville, AR, and Vea Story of Bald Knob, MO; and nine grandchildren. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
