The Life of DONALD I SWIM

Donald I. Swim, 81, of 2420 Elizabeth Ave. died of a heart ailment Tuesday at Mercy Hospital Medical Center. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Hamilton''''s Funeral Home. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Mr. Swim was born in Lakota and moved to Des Moines in 1923. He retired as director of the Polk County Veterans Affairs Commission, was a Navy veteran of World War II and had been a member of Eastgate Masonic Lodge, Des Moines Consistory, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine and Baldwin Patterson American Legion Post.

Among survivors are his wife, Verda; a son, Donald "Mickey" of Des Moines; a daughter, Linda Shultice, and a brother, James, both of Des Moines; a sister, Eva Hamilton of Hemet, Calif.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to cardiac care department at Mercy Hospital.
