The Life of VERNON WILLIAM SLAUGHTER

Vernon W. Slaughter, 77, of 3830 Sixth Ave. died of arteriosclerosis Tuesday at the Garden Court Nursing Care Center, 2501 Twenty-fourth St.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Arnold''s Highland park Funeral Home, with burial in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Mr. Slaughter was born in Princeton and lived in Davenport before he moved to Des Moines 47 years ago.  He was a retired telephone company plant clerk and was a World War I veteran.  Mr. Slaughter was active in Boy Scouts and the American Red Cross and was a member of Highland Park Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Martha; two daughters, Mrs. Jean Comstock and Mrs. Verna Bedford, both of Des Moines, two grandsons and two great-grandchildren.
