The Life of RICHARD LEE PHIPPS

Richard L. Phipps was born November 2, 1930 to Lillian and Lee Phipps in Des Moines, Iowa He died December 3, 2006 at Mercy Capitol Hospital. Richard was a physical education teacher and coach for the Des Moines Public Schools. He had taught at Mann and Barlow Granger elementary schools and was a coach at East High School. He was a member of Westkirk Presbyterian Church where he was active in the church choir. He was a member of the Isaac Walton League, Men’s Garden Club and an Air Force Veteran of the Korean Conflict. Funeral services will be Friday, December 8, 2006 at 11:00am at Westkirk Presbyterian Church, 2700 Colby Wood Dr., Urbandale. Visitation will be Thursday evening, Dec. 7, 2006 after 6:00 pm at Hamilton’s, 605 Lyon St. Richard is survived by his loving wife, Janet of 53 years. Two sons: Doug ( Casey) Phipps of Ankeny, Jeff (Suzie) Phipps of Des Moines and one daughter, Debra (John) Fondle of Des Moines. He also leaves six grandchildren; Brian, Ashley, Richie, Candace, Meredith and Alexandria; one great granddaughter, Tiera. Two brothers, Delmer (Shannon) Phipps and Dean (Jean) Phipps . He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers , two sisters and one grandchild, Rodney Lee Bennett.
