The Life of WILLIAM JOSEPH POE SR.
William J Poe Sr., 59, of 2754 Arnold Road died Wednesday of a stroke at Veterans Medical Center in Knoxville. A graveside service will be at 11 am Saturday at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Mr. Poe was born in Russellville, Ark., and lived in Des Moines most of his life. He was retired as a purchasing agent for the city of Des Moines. He was a veteran of the Marine Corps and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and University Little League.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; a daughter, Terry Benda of Des Moines; three sons, Bill Jr., Robert and Donald, all of Des Moines; his parents, Joe and Bess Poe of Russellville; two sisters, Betty McNeley and Barbara Peterson, both of Russellville; and six grandchildren.
Visitation will be all day today at Hamilton's Near Highland Memory Gardens Funeral Home, where the family will greet friends from 7 to 9 pm.
