The Life of JAMES ELMER CARTER

James E Carter, 84, of 1817 Pleasant St, died Saturday in Broadlawns Polk County Hospital of pneumonia. He had been ill two weeks. Mr. Carter was born in Smoky Hollow in Monroe County and lived in Des Moines 39 years. He was a machinist for Wood Brothers Moving before retiring. He is survived by his wife, Laura; four daughters, Mrs. Rosie Worthington, Mrs. LaVon Marmet and Mrs. Lola Acela, all of Des moines, and Mrs. Iona Richardson, of Kelley; four sons, Henry, Leonard, Clarence and vernon, all of Des Moines, a sister, Mrs. Alva Hazelett, of Albia; a brother, William, of Hiteman, and 29 grandchildren and 55 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 1:30 pm Tuesday at Hamilton's Funeral Home, with burial at Highland Memory Gardens.
