The Life of DONALD W HICK

Donald W Hick, 78, of 114 NW Scott St., Ankeny, died of cancer Friday at home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, where he was a member. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Hick was born in Altoona and had lived in Ankeny for 43 years. He had been manager of Denniston and Partridge Lumber Co. in Ankeny for 50 years, retiring in 1982. He served 12 years on the Ankeny Plan and Zoning Commission, was an Army veteran of World War II and founded the first housing subdivision in Ankeny after World War II. He was past president of Ankeny Golf and Country Club and in 1969 was the recipient of the Ankeny Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Citizen Award. He was a member of Ankeny Industrial Development Corp, Ankeny Chamber of Commerce, Ankeny Masonic Logic Lodge, American Legion, Iowa Lumbermen''s Association, National Homebuilders Association and Ankeny Lions Club. Surviving are his wife, Anna; three daughters, Roxie Bedford of Coralville, and Paula Hick and Stephanie Hick, both of Ankeny; a sister, Marguerite Huffman Salhus of Garden Grove, CA; and three grandchildren. Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. today at Ankeny Funeral Home, where the family will meet with friends from 2 to 6 p.m. today. Memorial contributions may be made to his church or Hospice of Central Iowa.
