The Life of WALTER EARL JENKIN

Services for Walter E Jenkin, 84, of 3126 SW Twelfth St. Place, West Des Moines, will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hamilton''s Funeral Home. Burial will be at Highland memory Gardens. Mr. Jenkin died of a paralytic stroke Sunday at Broadlawns County Hospital. He had been ill three weeks. Mr. Jenkin, a native of Blackburn, Lancashire, England, had lived in Des Moines 60 years. He was employed at Schultz Baking Co. before retiring in 1950. He was one of Des Moines'' oldest bakers. He then worked at the Lincoln Heights Library from 1053 to 1960. Mr. Jenkins served in the British Army in the Boer War in South Africa and was personnally presented with two medals by Queen Victoria for outstanding service. he came to the United States in 1902 and enlisted in the US Army in 1904. He served with the 11th Cavalry Division at the time of the Cuban Pacification after the Spanish-American War. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World. Survivors are his wife, Elizabeth, a son, Lester, of Tonawanda, NY; two daughters, Mrs. Roger Walker, Stockton, IL Mrs. Ellsworth Johnson, Des Moines; four brothers, Ernest of Blackburn, England, Alex of Blackpool, England, Jesse of Bolton, England, Fred of Preston, England; and a sister, Mrs. Bertha Drummond, of Adelaide, Australia, and eight grandchildren.
