The Life of PENG MALAVONG

Peng Malavong, 62, of the 900 block of East 23rd Court died of liver cancer Tuesday at Iowa Methodist Medical Center.  Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hamilton''s Near Highland Memory Gardens Funeral Home.  Cremation will follow services.

Mr. Malavong was born in Laos and had lived in Des Moines since 1980.  He had been a teacher, an Army captain and worked in the crating department for Townsend Engineering Co.  He was a member of Lao Buddhist Temple, of which he had served three terms as president.  He enjoyed fishing, community activities and working at the temple.

He is survived by his wife, Vang; four daughters, Vatsana Khamphouk of Melbourne, Australia, and Metta Khantavongsa, Chinda Chareunsab and Laddavanh Malavong, all of Des Moines; three sons, Niraphanh Malavong of Nebraska and Konekeo Malavong and Kheo Kham Malavong, both of Des Moines; and 10 grandchildren.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Hamilton''s Funeral Home.  Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
