The Life of ALICE VALERIE WITT
Alice V. Witt, 81, of Des Moines, passed away Sunday, August 14, 2005 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 17, 2005 at Highland Park Christian Church on 6th and Aurora in Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 16 at the same location.
Alice was born in Des Moines on September 23, 1923, the daughter of Eldon and Elsie Darr. She graduated from North High School in June of 1941 and then joined the Navy serving her country as a Pharmacist Mate Second Class.
Alice was married to Ralph E. Witt on October 13, 1945 in Couer d''Alene, Idaho. In addition to being mom to her two children, she was employed by Younkers and then spent thirty-nine years working at Hawkins Greenhouse with the people and flowers she loved.
Alice is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Ralph Elwood Witt; her daughter Carol Smith; son-in-law Reg Smith; grandson, Tyler Smith; son, Trace Witt; and daughter-in-law, Susan Witt.
She was preceded in death by both parents; her brother, Robert Darr; and her grandson, Eric Smith.
Memorials may be given to the Highland Park Christian Youth Group Fund or to Mercy Hospice Johnston. Arrangements handled by Hamilton''s near Highland Memory Gardens.
