The Life of OTIS O WIAND

Otis O. "Buss" Wiand, 76, of the 1900 block of East 42nd Street died of a heart attack due to a lung ailment Sunday at Iowa Lutheran Hospital.  Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Hamilton''s Near Highland Memory Gardens Funeral Home, with burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Mr. Wiand was born in Blakesburg and had lived in Albia before moving to Des Moines, where he had lived most of his life.  He was a retired control room operator with Iowa Power and Light Co., and a Navy Veteran of World War II.  He was a radio hobbyist and enjoyed family activities and gardening.

He is survived by a daughter, Sharon Miller, and a son, Bruce, both of Des Moines; two sisters, Hazel Maxine Harris of Ottumwa and Sandra Borland-Chumbley of Des Moines; three grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
