The Life of JOHN L MCDONALD

John “Jack” L. McDonald, 85, died Wednesday, December 13, 2006 at Fleur Heights Care Center from respiratory failure. Visitation will be held Sunday, December 17, 2006 from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, December 18, 2006 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, with burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Jack was born September 21, 1921 to Albert and Mable McDonald in Des Moines and worked as an engineer at Des Moines Public Schools. He served in the US Army during WW II and participated in the Battle of the Bulge. Jack was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church and involved in Little League, Boy Scouts, and the VFW. His faith and family were very important to him. Jack is survived by his sons, J.S. “Skip” McDonald of Blue Springs, MO, James A. “Jim” McDonald of Des Moines, and David J. “Dave” McDonald of Nashville; grandchildren, Denise, Deven, Steven, Becky, Jessica, and Ryan; great-grandchildren, Ric, Monica, and Ian; his life long friends from Fellowship Baptist church; and a host of other family and beloved friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gloria; three brothers; and two sisters. Memorial contributions may be given to Iowa Hospice. Their care was extraordinary during the finals days of Jack’s life. A special thank also goes to Fleur Heights Care Center for all their help, support, and care.
