The Life of MARTHA CHEATEM
Martha Cheatem, 67, of 3623 64th St., Urbandale, died of cancer Tuesday at Mercy Hospital Medical Center. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Gospel Assembly Church, of which she was a member. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Mrs. Cheatem, a homemaker and hospice caregiver, was born in Lexington, Miss., and had lived in Kansas City, Mo., and Chicago before moving to the Des Moines area in 1979.
Survivors include five daughters, Minnie Cheatem, Frances Morrow and Debroah Alexander, all of Des Moines, Kathey Lee of Charlotte, N.C., and Claudine Cheatem of Tulsa, Okla.; nine sons, Orange III, David, Charles, Ronald, Maurice and Johnathan, all of Des Moines, Anthony of Overland Park, Kan., and John and Russell, both of Urbandale; a stepson, Joseph Cheatem of Hammond, La.; a brother, Thomas Mims of Chicago; two sisters, Mary Woodson of Chicago and Claudine Dickson of Houston; 31 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hamilton''''s Near Highland Memory Gardens Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to her church.
