The Life of WENDELL MAX STONE

Wendell M. Stone, 79, died Monday, November 8, 2010, at his home in Des Moines. He was born June 5, 1931, in Liberty Center, Iowa to Fred and Lena Stone. Wendell graduated from Simpson College with a degree in business. He served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Wendell worked at the Woodsmith Store for 17 years. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church as well as the Des Moines Woodworker’s Club. He enjoyed woodworking, classic cars, fishing, fly-tying, and talking to people. Wendell is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Maurine; children, Wendy (Steve) Asher of Rapid City, SD, Stephanie (John) Long of Belle Plaine, IA, Jeanne (Paul) Thompson of Denver, CO, and David (Wendy) Stone of Des Moines; grandchildren, John, Julie and Josh Long; Emma, William and Annie Thompson; Tyler and Ben Stone. He was preceded in death by his parents; and daughter, Julie Stone. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Friday, November 12, 2010, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Medora United Methodist Church Ladies Aid, 12514 Hwy G76, Indianola, Iowa 50125, in loving memory of Wendell Stone.
