The Life of HAROLD R LAWLER

Harold was born November 10, 1922 to Frank and Ida (Gibson) Lawler. He passed away Sunday morning peacefully in his sleep from a long bout with prostrate and kidney cancer. He graduated from East High School in January of 1942. He married Betty King July 26, 1942. To this union they had a daughter, Lynda (Mike) Cowman of Oklahoma; two grandsons, Jeffrey (Sarah) Cowman, Chris (Sara) Cowman, 5 great grandchildren, Claire, Carter, Jacob, Cole and Ben. Two step-grandchildren, Avery and Brandon. Harold adored all of his family and said they were his life lived on. He served in the US Army during World War II in the South Pacific from 1942-1945. He joined the Des Moines Fire Department on April 1, 1953, and retired as an engineer on June 1, 1985. Harold was a member of Staves Memorial United Methodist Church, the VFW, American Legion, the Retired Firefighters Association and the East High Alumni Association. Besides his wife Betty, of over 67 years, he leaves his daughter, Lynda, grand- and great-grandchildren, a sister, Gloria (Byron) Brockway, a brother, Eugene Lawler of Texas, and a host of nieces and nephews, his snowmobile fireman friends, and his special friend, Scott and his family. Services will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday, November 25, at Staves Memorial United Methodist Church with Pastor R.D. Streeter officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the Church. Burial will take place at Highland Memory Gardens. Memorials may be made to Staves Memorial United Methodist Church.
