The Life of DOROTHY NELL SORRICK

Dorothy Nell Caldwell Sorrick was born July 1, 1919, in Alba, Texas, to Henry Jefferson and Rachel E. McCreight Caldwell and passed from this life into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010, in a local nursing home where she had been for six months. A graveside service will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 27, 2010 at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. The service for Dorothy was held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, at Immanuel Baptist Church in Texas. The family moved from east Texas while Dorothy was a young child and later moved to San Angelo. She graduated from Miles High School. Dorothy served in the WAC during World War II. While in the U.S. Army, she was stationed in Des Moines where she met and later married David Lindh Sorrick. After their marriage, they lived in Des Moines until his death in 1974. Dorothy moved back to San Angelo later that year. While in San Angelo, Dorothy helped care for her mother until her death. Dorothy was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church which she faithfully supported and attended until her health failed, but she never lost interest in what was going on. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and three brothers, Alton Caldwell, Kenneth Caldwell and James Caldwell. Also preceding her was her sister, Norvell Caldwell Burk. She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Sammie Caldwell and Norma Caldwell; and one brother-in-law, J. D. Burk. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, as well as their children and grandchildren. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff as Baptist Retirement Nursing Home for helping to make the last several months as pleasant as possible. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church in San Angelo.
