The Life of PAUL ERIC DENNY

Paul E. Denny was born in Ottumwa, Iowa, on September 21, 1944, and took his place with God on April 20, 2008.

Paul attended Hedrick Consolidated School from kindergarten through high school, graduating in 1962. He graduated from Simpson College in 1966, received his Iowa Secondary Teaching Certificate through Central College in 1967, his advanced paralegal certification in 1992, and his Masters Certification from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa in 1997. Paul also studied through the University of Iowa and Asuza Pacific in California.

Paul’s career included teaching, coaching, adult continuing education, and writing curricula. The majority of his career was spent in corporate training in technical tax planning, management development, and guest service, working from Hartford, Connecticut to San Diego, California. Paul also did motivational speaking and stand-up entertainment. He spent time with Rice & Renee, a mother-daughter entertainment team who spent several years traveling with the Harlem Globetrotters in their international travels and had an appearance on the Johnny Carson show with Don Rickles. Paul’s hobby was building scale model wooden dolls houses for family, friends, and charity, raising over $9,000.

Survivors include his wife Janice of Des Moines; daughter Debbie of Memphis, TN; son Gene (Christine) of Johnston, IA; a sister Ruth (Dave) Anderson of Altoona, IA; and a brother Ivan (Ruth) of Edmund, OK. He is survived by two incredible grandchildren, Leah and Grant; two step-children, Tyler of Phoenix, AZ and Marc of Salt Lake City, UT; six nieces and nephews, and several grand nieces and nephews, as well as extended family and friends in Iowa, Missouri, Arizona, and Utah.

Visitation will be Wednesday, April 23, from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Following this visitation, per his wishes, Paul will be cremated. Memorial services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 24, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines. Inurnment will follow services at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Per Paul’s request, family and friends are invited to attend, wearing bright colors to commemorate Paul’s positive mental attitude and sense of humor.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Covenant Christian Church.
