The Life of EARLENE KAY WALTON

Earlene K. Walton died June 16, 2010 at Mercy Hospice, Johnston. Funeral services will be held 10 AM, Saturday, June 19 at Westover Funeral Home, 6337 Hickman Road, Des Moines. The family will greet friends Friday from 4:30 to 7:30 PM at the funeral home. Following visitation, an O.E.S. service will be held. Earlene was born August 2, 1938 in Des Moines Iowa to Earl and Dorothy (Phillips) Gray. After graduating from North High school she attended Drake University and Des Moines Area Community College, receiving her LPN degree. She worked as a Secretary for the California Highway Patrol and as a nurse for Des Moines General Hospital, Creston Medical Clinic and the Mercy ENT Clinic. While living in Creston she co-owned Countyside RV's. In 1957 she married Clifford "Buck" Walker. Three daughters were born to this union, Cindy, Kelly and Tracie. The marriage ended in 1972. In 1984 she married Eldon F. Walton. She was a former member of Parents Without Partners, Chapter 319, serving the organization as both Chapter President and State President. She was a current member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Shrine Hospital Auxiliary, Daughters of the Nile and was serving as a member of the advisory board of Hope Lodge (American Cancer Society) in Iowa City. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Carolyn Voegtlin. She will be missed by her husband, Eldon; daughters, Cindy (Steve) Austin, Kelly and Tracie Walker; step-daughter, Missy Walton; step-son, Bill Walton and grandchildren, Jordan, Forrest, Masen and Avery Austin, Kyleigh and Delaney Kern and step-grandson Kevin Walton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Animal Rescue League or Hope Lodge, 750 Hawkins Drive in Iowa City, Iowa 52246. >>
