The Life of LARRY PARSONS

Larry Dale Parsons was born on July 22, 1940 to Glen and Alice Parsons in Ulman, MO. He passed away on June 8, 2009 at Bright Kavanagh House after a battle with cancer. Larry was a retired member of Local 33 Plumbers and Steamfitters. He had been an instructor for the apprenticeship program for Local 33, and an instructor of the Plumbers and Steamfitters National Apprentice Program. He finished his career as a plumber for the Des Moines School District. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, Dragoon Trail Chapter of the Isaak Walton League of America and American Gunsmithing Association. He enjoyed gunsmithing, hunting and fishing. He was also a member of the Mid-Iowa Wood Carvers and the National Wood Carver's Association. He was a regular participant in the wood carving contest at the Iowa State Fair. Larry is survived by his loving wife Judy of 49 years and their two sons, Craig (Tami) and his children Lindsey, Alison and Cory. Brian (Lori) and their children, Owen and Olivia; his sister, Janis (Bill) Balzer of Des Moines, and their children, Kim (Matt) Hall and their children, Ethan and Emma of Omaha, NE. Kari (Mark) Conley and their children, Kaden and Gavin of Fenton, MO. He was also survived by his aunts, Gena Markey and Corrine Cole of Des Moines and Nadine (Bill) Towns of Colecamp, MO; and his uncle, Jackie Parsons of Lee's Summit, MO. Larry was preceded in death by his parents. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa and the American Cancer Society. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 11, 2009 at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, with burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
