The Life of MELVIN CHARLES ROE

Melvin C. Roe, Sr., 89, died Friday, October 29, 2010, at Urbandale Health Care Center in Urbandale. He was born March 11, 1921, in Diagonal, Iowa to William and Olive Roe. Melvin served in the Army during WWII and was a long time member of the American Legion in Ankeny. He retired from Artistic Manufacturing after 29 years of service and was a member of the Ankeny Baptist Church. Melvin is survived by his children, Mel (Pam) Roe Jr., Judi Rice, Raymond (Glenda) Roe; seven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren; brother, William (Mary Ann) Roe; sister, Marie (Jim) Crawford; and sister-in-law, Rosemary Roe. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn; grandson-in-law, Tim Howlett; three brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m, Tuesday, November 2, 2010, at Ankeny Baptist Church, 2842 SW 3rd Street, Ankeny, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Family will visit with friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, November 1, 2010, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Ankeny Baptist Church and Iowa Hospice in loving memory of Melvin C. Roe, Sr.
