The Life of JERALD ROSS LEWIS

Jerald Ross “J.R.” Lewis, 73, passed away Friday, August 5, 2011, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was born January 14, 1937, in Des Moines, the son of Benjamin and Berniece (Smith) Lewis. J.R. graduated from Altoona High School and served in the Marine Corps for four years in Japan. He graduated from Iowa Wesleyan College and the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He retired from the Iowa State Patrol after 28 years of service, part of which he was Commander of the Vehicle Theft Division. After retiring from the Patrol, J.R. started J.R. Investigations until his second retirement in 2002. He was past President of IAPI and a founding member of the Academy of Private Investigators. J.R. was a member of American Legion Post 0729, Huntmasters, Rotary Club, Early Wheels Car Club, and was also President of the Board of Directors for St. Paul Lutheran Church. J.R. is survived by his best friend and wife, Patricia Silverman-Lewis; daughter, Wendy Lewis; three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; sister, Pat and her husband, Cliff Blythe; dear friend, Vicki Wilcoxon and family; and his dogs, Minnie and Chinni. He was preceded in death by his parents, and son, Jeffrey Lewis. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, August 9, 2011, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will greet friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family for donations to his favorite charities.
