The Life of HAROLD KING DAWSON

H. King Dawson, 91, passed away, Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines. A memorial service will be held 4:30 p.m., Friday, May 30 at Westover Funeral Home. A private burial will take place at Highland Memory Gardens. H. King Dawson was born June 1, 1916 in Knoxville, Iowa, the son of H. Clyde and Jennie (King) Dawson. The family moved to Des Moines in 1919 where King grew up and attended school, graduating from North High School in 1934. He attended the University of Iowa for one year before he went to work in the Engineering Department at the Des Moines Water Works in 1937. He retired in November of 1980 as Director of Engineering at Des Moines Water Works. King married Eileen Richards in January 1938 and two sons were born to this union, Larry C. Dawson and L. Richard Dawson. King was a member of Central Presbyterian Church and a 50 year member of Pioneer Masonic Lodge. In addition to his parents, King was preceded in death by sisters, Sarah E.Dawson and Jeanette Kabrick; son, Larry C. Dawson and grandson, Mark W.Dawson. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Eileen Dawson of West Des Moines; son, L. Richard (Cindi) Dawson of Corrales, NM; daughter- in-law, Twyla Dawson of Des Moines; grandchildren, David, Paul, Jeni, Beth and John;14 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials for King be directed to The Shrine Hospital for Crippled Children or The American Cancer Society.
