The Life of JAMES ALFORD MCKNIGHT

Jim McKnight lost his long battle with cancer at 5:10 a.m. April 19, 2010 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Jim was a Paratrooper and on the frontlines in Korea where he received the Purple Heart. He retired from Armstrong Tire after 35 years of service. Jim also did custom baling and quit just three years ago. His love was horses and tractors and he had quite a few of both. Jim is survived by his wife, Franky (Shineflew) McKnight; sons, Steve (Sue) and Dean (Debbie); grandchildren, Shannon (Chuck) Smith, Jamie (Matt) Keller, and Codie McKnight, great-grandchildren, Joshua and Logan; step-daughters, Kelly (Dave) Green, Ronda (Verlin) Potts; step-grandson, Bryce Beyerink; sister, Carol Jean Morrison; and brothers, Carl and Larry McKnight. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 23, 2010, at Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines, burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
