The Life of ARVID UPTON GATES JR.
Arvid Gates JR, passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at St. Anthony Hospital Hospice, in Denver Colorado. Arvid was born March 31st, 1938 in Des Moines, Iowa at the Iowa Methodist Hospital. He lived in Des Moines until 1986 when he moved to Denver, Colorado.
A visitation with family will be held Sunday, August 1, 2010 at Hamilton Funeral Home near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 2nd, 12:00 p.m. Noon at the funeral home, with burial services following at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Arvid graduated from North High School in Des Moines in 1956. He then attended Drake University where he majored in Art and Music. He married Diane Davis August 2, 1980. In Des Moines he worked for Multiplex Business forms, as a printer, from 1959 until 1986. Arvid and Diane moved to Denver, Colorado in 1986 where he worked for Denver Forms until 2003 when he retired.
Besides his family, one of his greatest passions was music. He played the baritone, sousaphone, string bass, the electric bass and the base trumpet. He performed in a number of bands, playing Jazz, and Dixie Land and Rock Music. Another passion of his was wood working. He enjoyed creating different types of wood products which he gave to family and friends.
Arvid is survived by his wife, Diane, son, Scott, sister, Jo Anne Rowe (Clarence), brother, Richard Gates (Alene), and sister Roberta Ickowitz.
Arvid was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Gates, father, Arvid U. Gates SR, brother, Frederick Gates, sister, Norma Beebe, father-in-law, Keith Davis.
Arvid will always be remembered for his compassion for life and his love of family and friends. His sense of humor was classic. He will always be remembered with love and affection by all that knew him.
