The Life of VERNON NILE BENNETT SR
Vernon Bennett, 72, died Sunday, November 30, 2008, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. Vernon was born on August 18, 1936. Vernon graduated from East High School, was the President of the Teamsters Union 147 and a representative for the Legislature. He was a truck driver and a real estate agent. Vernon loved racing (Talladega), and politics. He was an avid Bears and Iowa Hawkeyes fan. Vernon is survived by his children, Tammy Bennett, Vernon Nile Bennett Jr. and Pamela Bennett; siblings, Connie, George, Leona, Dale, Phyllis, Bev, Ray, Kenny; 9 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; significant other, Gerri Bennett and his ex-wife, Dixie Bennett. He was preceded in death by his daughter Nancy Bennett Bianchi; his parents; a grandson Vernon Nile III; 4 siblings, Max, Joy, Richard and Virginia. Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens with Pastor Michael Lumbard officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may visit with family from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the family in loving memory of Vernon.
