The Life of DIXIE LEE COPELAND

Dixie Lee Copeland, 65, passed away Saturday, December 27, 2008 from a heart attack at her home in Des Moines. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 30th, from 6-8 pm at Hamilton Southtown Funeral Home, with a vigil service at 7 pm. Funeral services will be 10 am Wednesday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 15 Indianola Road. Born Dixie Lee Hendrickson on November 13, 1943 in Leavenworth Kansas, she moved to Iowa in 1945 and graduated from Washington High School in Cedar Rapids Iowa in 1961. Dixie was married to Earl Andrew “Andy” Hasley Jr. on August 10, 1963. Dixie and Andy were blessed with three beautiful children, Charlotte, Earl Andrew III, and Mathew, and lost one precious daughter Mary Janine at childbirth. Dixie selflessly donated her time to the Catholic Church, serving as a missionary on Grand Bahamas Island in 1967. Dixie was a longtime employee of Doors, Inc in Des Moines and recently served as bookkeeper and financial advisor for Big Creek Granite Company, owned by her son Mathew. Dixie will always be remembered for her deep love of her family and her wonderful English garden. Dixie was married to Daniel James Copeland on June 14, 1996. Dixie is survived by her husband, Daniel; children, Charlotte, Earl Andrew III, and Mathew and step children Tammy and Danny; sister, Susie Peters; step brother, Bill Jess and 10 beloved grandchildren. Along with her daughter, she is preceded in death by her mother Maurine Jess, father Kenneth Hendrickson, and stepfather William Jess.
