The Life of GLADY STEPHENS

Glady Stephens, 60, died of Multiple Myeloma on Tuesday, August 28, 2007 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa she lived in Burlington, Iowa until going to college. After graduating from Iowa State University, she moved to the Des Moines area where she spent the rest of her years. Glady was an avid reader, she loved to travel and play Scrabble with her husband, Bruce. She liked going to movies and belonged to a Movie Club. She loved music, walking, racquetball and playing with her granddaughters. Family was very important to her. She always looked forward with excitement to their vacations in Freeport, Bahamas each year. She loved life and lived it to the fullest. Glady taught in Des Moines, Murray and Earlham Public Schools. The past few years she was a Counselor at Roosevelt and Lincoln High Schools in Des Moines. Glady is survived by her husband, Bruce Stephens, her sons Andrew Tice and his wife Mary, Chandler Tice and his wife Katie, and three granddaughters, Olivia, Quinn and Mia. She is also survived by three sisters, Barb Keeley, Ginny Cook and Nan Johnston and one brother, Gary Anderson. Also surviving are her parents-in-law, Marge and Shelby Stephens, and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 1, 2007 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 N.W. 60th, Des Moines. The family will greet friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Friday, August 31st at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to “Multiple Myeloma Research”.
