The Life of JACQUELYN DENISE KOLLINGS

Jacquelyn Kollings, 74, of Des Moines passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 6, 2008, at her home from complications due to pneumonia and heart conditions.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 13, 2008 at Holy Trinity Church, 2926 Beaver Ave., in Des Moines.  The visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 12, at Iles (Westover) Funeral Home, 6337 Hickman Road, Des Moines.

Jacquelyn, born on October 20, 1933, in Grand Forks, North Dakota, was the oldest of three children and a lifetime resident of Des Moines.  Her parents were Wesley and Myrle Day.  Jacquelyn graduated from Tech High School in Des Moines and attended Drake University.  In her early years, she worked at the Iowa Athletic Union and then later in the newsroom at the Des Moines Register as a secretary, where she met her future husband.  Jacquelyn and Thomas Kollings were married on June 12, 1954.

Jacquelyn had a fondness for staying active with weekly bingo, daily walks and 17 years of part-time employment at the Burlington Coat Factory.  A devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, she loved and cherished her family above all else.  She enjoyed her grandchildren''s dance and musical recitals, sports and school activities, graduations and holiday times.  Jacquelyn''s warm and generous spirit was present always as she hosted family gatherings with her wonderfully cooked meals and patient grace.  Her hobbies included gardening, puzzles and fishing with her husband.

Jacquelyn is survived by her husband Tom Kollings; brother, Charles Day; sons, Michael (Carol), Scott (Jenifer), and David (Jenna) Kollings; daughter, Jennifer Sutherland-Groh (Fiance'', Ryan); her grandchildren, Megan (Brett) and Jenna Kollings, Erin, Jessica and Kelli Kollings, Jacob Sutherland, Mathew and Olivia Groh; great grandson, Mason Kollings; and two nephews, Kevin Kaupp and Jon Gibson.

Jacquelyn''s selfless, non-conditional loving spirit and ever optimistic attitude will be truly missed by her family and all who knew her.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa or Holy Trinity catholic Church in loving memory of Jacquelyn Kollings.
