The Life of ROBERT E DREHER

Robert E Dreher, of Sarasota, formerly of Des Moines, IA went to be with the Lord Saturday, June 3, 2011. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. June 18, at Christ Church, Longboat Key. Survivors include his loving wife, Virginia S. Clark; son, R. Kim Dreher of Des Moines, IA (Janet), daughter, Susan L. Schuchat, of Bradenton, FL (Brad); step-daughters, Janyce Miller (Dusty) of Rockford, IL and Julie Lump (John) of Eau Claire, WI; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He is preceded in death by his beloved first wife, Edith C. Hollis, of Topeka, Kansas and granddaughter, Diane M. Schuchat. Robert was born in Ford, Kansas, July 8, 1915 to James K Lee and May O. Lee (Cheval). Robert received his LLB from Drake University, Des Moines, IA in 1942 and his JD, also from Drake University in 1954. He proudly began his military career in the Army April 23, 1942. He served in the European Theater of Operations from February, 1944 to December, 1945 with CID; his last duty in Europe being assigned to the Inspector General's Dept. His rank at separation, Major in Iowa National Guard, continued to be a source of pride. Robert began his distinguished career in law on March 15, 1946. He became managing partner in Dreher, Wilson, and Adams law firm of Des Moines, IA in 1969. In addition to being licensed to practice law in 1942 in Iowa, Robert took and passed the Florida Bar in 1984 and was licensed to practice law in Florida. He remains Of Counsel to the firm from 1990 to present. During his time in Des Moines, IA he served as Bank Director of First Federal State Bank/Hawkeye Bank from 1954 to 1990, General Counsel, Homesteaders Life Company 1965-1990 and served on the board of Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery from 1959-1990. Recently, Robert became a proud charter member of Christ Church of Longboat Key where he drafted its organization documents. Of Roberts' vast accomplishments, the one he was most noted for was his love of his family. They strongly urge in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Des Moines Christian School or Christ Church of Longboat Key.
