The Life of CATHRYN GENEVIA BRACKNEY
Cathryn Genevia Brackney went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 29, 2008. She was surrounded by loved ones at Kavanagh House on 56th Street. Funeral services will be 1:00pm Thursday, October 2nd at Wakonda Christian Church, 3938 Fleur Drive with burial following at Highland Memory Gardens. A visitation will be held Wednesday from 6-8pm at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home. Cathryn was born August 11, 1920 near Stahl Missouri to Albert and Viola Payton. She lived most of her childhood in Novinger, Missouri and graduated from Novinger High School class of 1938. She met the love of her life Monte L. Brackney and they were married on December 31, 1942. After WWII they made Des Moines their home and raised their children. Cathryn is survived by her children Mary Lynn (Bob) Jose, of Fredricks MD, Larry (Donna) of Martensdale, IA, Alan (Jane) of Fairbanks AK, and Norman (Paula) of West Des Moines, IA; her half brother Herbert Payne of Kirksville, MO; her eight grandchildren; her seven great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Monte, parents, two sisters, one brother and granddaughter, DeAnne Curry. A special thanks to Judi Norman and Mary Lile at Kavanagh House and all those who supported her and the family during her illness. She will be remembered for her generosity, kindness and love. Cathryn will be deeply missed by all those who knew her.
