The Life of HELEN VERA WARREN

Helen Vera (Anderson) Warren, 89, died Saturday, November 22, 2008 at Iowa Health Hospice Taylor House.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at Lutheran Church of the Cross in Altoona. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Helen was born March 6, 1919 to Ellen and Oscar Anderson. She graduated from East High School in 1937. She married Edwin Warren, and on November 6, celebrated 63 wonderful years with him.

She was a member of the Altoona United Methodist Church and the Altoona American Legion Auxiliary.

One of the most notable achievements accomplished by Helen was her assistance in the development of the family business that would later be known as Warren Frozen Foods.

In 1967 this company got its’ start by producing a frozen egg noodle under the name of Aunt Vi’s. This item was initially found in retail stores within the Des Moines area. As the popularity of this item grew, it could be found throughout the Midwest.

Helen, along with her husband Ed and their three children, took this company from a start-up company to a company with border-to-border sales. Many restaurants and well-known food companies throughout the US. continue to use products made from this company. Ed and Helen retired from Warren Frozen Foods in 2003 at the age of 84. Prior to that time, Helen could be found throughout the building continuing to watch over her pride and joy.

Helen is survived by her loving husband, Edwin Warren of Altoona; her children: Michael (Laura) Warren of Johnston, Terry (Detra) Warren of Mitchellville, and Jill Hood of Altoona; her 6 grandchildren: Lance Hood, Kristin (Warren) Bliss, Ryan, Brad, Emily, and Trenton Warren; 5 great grandchildren; and her sister, Viola (Anderson) Peterson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Ellen Anderson; her brothers, Everett, Roy, and Wayne Anderson; and her sister Alice (Anderson) Shipp.

Visitation will be from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at Lutheran Church of the Cross in Altoona.

Memorial contributions may be made to Iowa Health Hospice Taylor House, Altoona United Methodist Church, or Lutheran Church of the Cross in loving memory of Helen.
