The Life of DALE FREDERICK RUMMANS

Dale F Rummans of Rio Rico, Arizona, formerly of Des Moines, passed away Saturday March 28, 2009. Funeral Services will be at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street at 11:00 A. M. Saturday April 4, 2009 with burial at Highland Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 P. M. at the funeral home. He was born in Bondurant, Iowa to Fred and Bertha Rummans. After attending school he joined the Army Air Corp and served during WWll. He was awarded six Bronze Stars and a Good Conduct Medal. He was Honorably Discharged August 29, 1945. He returned to Bondurant and farmed with his Father and brothers. On August 4, 1963 Dale married Gwendolyn Brooks and instantly became a great stepfather and step grandfather. He and Gwen owned Sevastopol Café and B & B Grocery Meat and Deli. In January 1971 after having gotten the last three sons grown Dale and Gwen moved to and were one of the first dozen families to begin molding the new community of Rio Rico in southern Arizona. They became an important part of the community. They were lifelong members of the Rio Rico Roadrunners Club. Dale worked for Rio Rico Properties until he retired in 1985. After retirement he and Gwen travel the United States in their motor home. They attended many of his AAC Conventions reconnecting with his service buddies and their wives. They also spent many months in Des Moines with their family. Preceding him in death were his wife Gwendolyn, his parents, a stepson (Donald Brooks), a step son-in-law (Frank Kooyman) and grandson (Jamey Brooks). Surviving him are his brothers Lee (Elva), Paul (Hazel) stepsons. John (Becky), Charles, Archie (Dixie) Brooks, stepdaughter Jane Kooyman, fifteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his three little dogs that he loved dearly, Pinon, Nika and Poncho.
