The Life of PHYLLIS NORMA THARP
Phyllis Tharp, 84, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, July 25, 2009 at Mercy Hospital. Her graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 1, 2009 at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines. Visitation will be from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. Saturday, at Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. Phyllis was born August 10, 1924 to Mabel and Roy Steele in Adel. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, and working in the yard with her daughter. She most enjoyed spending time with her family, making her house open to anyone, and the main place for family gatherings. Phyllis is survived by: her daughter Carla Jean Freel; her son-in-law who was like a son to her, Roger Freel; her son Brent Phillip Tharp; and many many grandchildren, great-grandchildren; extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years: Virgil Jackson Tharp; her son, Kent Jackson Tharp; her grandson, Randy Virgil Freel; her great-granddaughter Caitlin Elizabeth Freel; her great-grandson Joshua Smith; and her sisters: Iona "Inky" Polito and Carlene Bowen. Memorial contributions may be made to the family in loving memory of Phyllis.
