The Life of NETTIE SUE MCCLINTON

Nettie Sue McClinton, age 94, of Storm Lake, Iowa passed away Thursday, January 06, 2011 at Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 10, 2011 at Highlands Memory Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines, Iowa. The arrangements are under the direction of the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Nettie was born March 31, 1916 in Shelbyville, Tennessee to James W. and Jennie A. (Brown) Smith, the fourth child in a family of eight children. The family moved to Chickasaw, Oklahoma where Nettie accepted Jesus and was baptized. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. Nettie graduated from Chickasaw High School. While in Oklahoma, Nettie met Buford McClinton and the two were married November 26, 1938 in Des Moines. To that union was born one son, Thomas. The couple lived for 60 years on the east side of Des Moines where Nettie worked as a switchboard operator and homemaker. Nettie was famous for her cooking; especially homemade bread and cinnamon rolls, German sweet chocolate cake and pies. Nettie was preceded in death by her parents, James Sr. and Jennie Smith; two brothers, Oren and James Jr.; three sisters: Alma McAbee, Ruth Henegar and Francis Light; and her husband, Buford. Nettie is survived by her son, Thomas (Jane) McClinton of Storm Lake; two grandsons, Sean (Angeline) McClinton of Mankato, Minnesota and Shane (Michaelyn) McClinton of West Des Moines; one granddaughter, Shannon (Brian) Shearer of Denver, Colorado; six great grandsons: Dylan, Evan, Kellan, Brody, Alec and Blake; one sister, Sarah Goodwin of Torrance, California; one brother, Bud (Bobbi) Smith of Payson, Arizona; and a host of nieces and nephews.>>
