The Life of JOHN ROY WALKER
John R. Walker, 86, of 615 Oak Park Ave. died of a heart ailment Thursday at Hillside Convalescent Center. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at All Saints Catholic Church, of which he was a member. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Mr. Walker was born in Stevens Point, WI and lived in Des Moines most of his life. He retired as a pipe fitter for Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. and was a World War II veteran of the Seabees.
Among survivors are his wife, Margaret; two sons, John and Richard, both of Des Moines; three daughters, Virginia Hanrahan of Cumming, Charlene Zahorik of Shellsburg and Darlene Lawrence of Central City; two sisters, Genevieve Van Huff of Tucson, AZ and Harriett Gentle of Coral Springs, FL; and 13 grandchildren.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Highland Park Funeral Home, where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil service. Memorial contributions may be made to his church.
