The Life of PARIS WILSON HARMON

Paris Wilson Harmon, 93, passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2006, at home of heart failure.  Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 18, 2006, at Epworth United Methodist Church in Des Moines, with burial following at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Paris was born June 15, 1912 in Couch, Missouri to John Wesley and Betty Susie (Proctor) Harmon.  He lived the first 12 years of his life in Missouri and 81 years in the Des Moines area.  He attended Roosevelt High School.  Paris married Mildred Haynes on December 20, 1936 in West Des Moines.  He retired in 1971 at the age of 59 as Superintendent of Receiving for Armstrong Tire and Rubber Co. in Des Moines after 40 years.  He was a 68-year member of Epworth United Methodist Church.  He loved athletics - he played baseball and was an avid football fan.  He also loved hunting and fishing and gardening.

Paris is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Mildred; children, Vonis Anne (Ron) Miller and Mary Elizabeth (Dan) Johnson; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Jane Fox.

The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Iles Funeral Home - Westover Chapel.  Memorial contributions may be given to Epworth United Methodist Church.
