The Life of DALE R CALLEN

Dale R. Callen, 78, known as "Curly" to co-workers at Firestone, passed away on Friday, August 15, 2003 at Taylor House.  Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Grandview Lutheran Church.

Dale was born in Moravia, Iowa on April 11, 1925 to James Riley Callen and Fanny (Glick) Callen.  He graduated from Moravia High School as a member of the class of 1942.

He retired from Firestone in 1985 after 40 years of service.  He was an avid gardener and an active member of Grandview Lutheran Church, Local 310 Retirees Club and the Croatian Center.  He formerly served on the Saydel Consolidated School Board, including a term as president, and the boards of the Saydel Little League and Boy Scout Troop 73.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Evelyn; his sons, Craig of Okemos, MI and Bruce (Sandy) of Lake Elmo, MN; his daughter, Sheri (Frank) Gustafson of Des Moines; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Reba Packard of Toledo, OH, Ardis Walter of Centerville and Glee Dayton of Perry.  He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Edrie Phillips.

Visitation with the family is from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and again from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday at Grandview Lutheran Church.  His family requests, in lieu of flowers, that memorial contributions may be made to Grandview Lutheran Church or Taylor House Hospice.>>
