The Life of GILBERT HARLAN BARNES

Gilbert H. Barnes, 88, of 6120 Woodland Ave. died of cancer Friday at home.  Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Hamilton's Funeral Home, with burial in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Mr. Barnes was born in Lovilia and had lived in Des Moines most of his life.  He retired from the maintenance department of Iowa Methodist Medical Center and was a member of Windsor United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Lola; a daughter, Carole Law of Des Moines; a son, Terry Gilbert Barnes of Des Moines; three sisters, Margaret Carr of Ottumwa, Geraldine Parker of Metamota, IL, and Maxine Thompson of East Moline, IL; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m.
