The Life of HUGO FONTANINI

Hugo Fontanini, 93, formerly of Des Moines, passed from this life on Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at Saint Benedict''s Senior Community in St. Cloud, MN. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 30, at St. Mary''s of Nazareth Catholic Church in Des Moines of which he was a member. Burial will take place on Monday, at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines. Hugo was born on December 1, 1914 in Enterprise, IA to Domenico and Marie Bertucci Fontanini. He was a graduate of Ankeny High School. Hugo was an army veteran of World War II, until he was honorably discharged on September 9, 1943. He married Pauline Cort and to this union, three children were born, Robert, Sharon and George. Mrs. Fontanini passed away in 1977. Hugo married Therese Brommel and they later divorced. Hugo was employed with Prudential Insurance as a sales associate from 1962, until his retirement in 1977. Prior to that, he was employed with Falstaff Distributing. Hugo was a member of the American Legion and the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his children, Sharon (Tony) Iano of Big Lake, MN, Robert (Connie) Fontanini of Greeneville, TN and George (Diane) Fontanini of Pinellas Park, FL; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his first wife, Pauline, Hugo was preceded into eternal life by his two infant children, Richard and Catherine; three brothers, John, Joseph and Aldo Fontanini; and three sisters, Katherine Leverman, Rose Urness and Violet Leseney. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the service time on Monday at the church.
