The Life of JOHN W CALHOUN

John W. Calhoun, 85, of Escondido, Calif., died of cancer Friday at Pallmar Care Center there. The body was cremated, and memorial services will be held at a later date. Burial of the cremains will be at Highland memory Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines. Mr. Calhoun was born in Wichita, Kan., and had lived in Des Moines 30 years before moving to Escondido 16 years ago. He also had lived in Missouri 14 years. He was a retired mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service and had worked at the main post office in Des Moines. He also had been an insurance salesman with Mutual of Omaha and a tax preparer with H&R Block. He was an Army Veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion. He enjoyed fishing and playing bridge. He is survived by a daughter, Mary Calhoun of Des Moines; a son, Gary of Ann Arbor, Mich.; two sisters, Mary Eads of Missouri and Lois Trowbridge of Escondido; a brother, Humphrey of Escondido; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Hamilton''s Near Highland Memory Gardens Funeral Home in Des Moiens is handling arrangements.
