The Life of KEITH LAVERNE SURLES
Keith LaVerne Surles, 86, of 3916 53rd St. died of a heart ailment Sunday at Mercy Hospital Medical Center. Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Westover Funeral Home, with burial in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Mr. Surles was born in Cambridge and lived in Des Moines for 76 years. He retired from Mid-Seven Transportation and was a member of the Merle Hay Mall Walking Club, Teamsters Union and Forest Avenue Baptist Church. He was also a member of Auxiliary Police of Des Moines, serving as chief for 27 years, and was a 47-year floor manager for the Iowa Sports and Vacation Show.
Survivors include his wife, Cora, a son, Robert of Urbandale; a daughter, Marilyn Cabbage of West Des Moines; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart or Diabetes Associations.
