The Life of MERLE L HAYES
Merle L. Hayes, 80 of Heritage Care Center died of a heart ailment there Friday. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Mr. Hayes was a lifelong resident of Des Moines, where he retired as a mail carrier for the US Postal Service. He served in the Army during World War II and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.
He is survived by a daughter, Marcia Samuelson of West Des Moines; two stepsons, Bruce Egger of Des Moines and Steve Egger of Hawaii; a brother, Herbert of San Diego; two grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren. His wife, Dorothy, preceded him in death.
The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hamilton''s Near Highland Memory Gardens Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to American Kidney Fund of Bethesda, MD.
