The Life of Shirley Stone Harris

Shirley Stone Harris, 90, of Roanoke, Va., wife of the late Ira “Ike” William Harris, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2024. She was the daughter of the late Mary Tomblin and Cecil Alexander Stone. Shirley was also preceded in death by infant son, Mark Thomas; her sisters, Dorothy Lassiter and Mary Jane Spencer; and her brother, Cecil Alexander Stone Jr.

Surviving is her son, Michael Stone Harris (Vickie) of Haysi, Va.; her daughter, Susan Harris Lipes (Robert S. Lipes) of Roanoke; her sister-in-law, Nancy Lea Sublett (James C. Sublet) of St. Augustine, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Shirley, a graduate of Radford University, taught in Roanoke City and Dickenson County Schools. She was a member of Roanoke Retired Educators Association and St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church in Roanoke, Va.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, May 3, 2024, at Oakey’s South Chapel. A private graveside service will be conducted with the Rev. Karin MacPhail officiating.
