The Life of Jack Dillard Cooper

Jack D. Cooper Jr., a Roanoke native through and through, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2024, at the age of 77. "Jackie," as he was lovingly referred to, was born on June 1, 1946, to Jack Cooper Sr. and Ruby Ann Geraldine Sink.

Jackie is survived by his two children, Brett and J.D., along with their mother, Karen.

He retired from Norfolk Southern with over 43 years of service from the years 1970 to 2013.

He received acclamation for his remarkable performances in powerlifting and bodybuilding competitions. Jackie was recently inducted into the Virginia Strength and Power Hall of Fame in December of 2023, being further honored earlier this month with the first annual Jack Cooper Bench Press Classic. He spent the remainder of his life after retirement training youth in weight lifting with friend, Mark Harrison, at The Fastest 40 and deepening his faith in God. Jackie Cooper will be missed by all who knew him, but his legacy will live on in the impact he made in the Roanoke Valley and amongst his loved ones.

A special thanks to Good Samaritan Hospice and all of his friends who kept him company during his courageous battle against cancer.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at Oakey's South Chapel. His Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 3, 2024, at Colonial Avenue Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Evergreen Burial Park. Family and friends are invited for lunch at Colonial Avenue Baptist Church following interment. Condolences may be shared with his family at www.Oakeys.com.
