The Life of George J. Valentino

George J. Valentino, age 96, of Westport, beloved husband of the late Dolores G. Valentino, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 16, 2024. Born in the Bronx, NY the son of the late William and Louisa (Dolly) Valentino, he had been an area resident for most of his life. He served in the US Army during World War II and graduated from Oklahoma State Agricultural and Mechanical College where he received a Bachelor's degree in Architecture. He enjoyed a rewarding career as owner of the Valentino & Associates Architectural firm. Licensed in the states of CT, NY, FL and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, he was a member of the CT Society of Architects and the American institute of Architects. George enjoyed carpentry, artistry, crossword puzzles, computers, reading westerns and writing. He served on the Westport Planning & Zoning Commission and donated frequently to the Paralyzed Veteran's Association, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Catholic Charities. A "stubborn Italian" and a man of few words, George will be fondly remembered for his sly sense of humor, his thoughtfulness, and generosity. He cared deeply for his family and was always there for them. He will be sadly missed by his two daughters, Michele Valentino Furlong and her husband William E. Furlong and stepson Brian Furlong, Andrée Valentino Long and her husband Edward A. Long and their daughters Samantha Rae Long and her fiancé Justin Murray and Amanda Kaye Long and her partner Kevin Curley and his cherished great-grandson, Dean C. Murray. He is additionally survived by a half-sister and was predeceased by several other half-siblings. Friends may greet the family Friday, March 22, 2024 from 4-6 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield. A prayer service will conclude the visitation. Entombment will be private at the mausoleum of Oak Lawn Cemetery, Fairfield.
