The Life of Richard Arrington
Obituary
Richard Gary Arrington, 70, of Vinton, Virginia passed away Saturday, March 30, 2024.
He was born Thursday, August 20, 1953. Richard was baptized at the age of 10 on March 29, 1964, at Vinton Baptist Church. Richard was the eldest son of Kathleen Arrington, and the late, Richard E. Arrington.
After his graduation from William Byrd high school in 1972 Richard worked at Reliance Universal in Roanoke until he answered the call to preach and took his wife, Kathy and the boys to Nashville, Tennessee. He worked his way through college as a security guard at Tennessee State University, during the day though he attended classes at Free Will Baptist Bible College as he equipped for ministry. Upon his graduation from FWBBC, he founded Berean Freewill Baptist Church in Fairview, Tennessee. Most recently he worked as an Clinical Coordinator of Anesthesia at several hospitals including Vanderbilt, Roper, and finally New York Presbyterian Medical Center, until returning to Vinton, Virginia.
Left to cherish the precious memories and many stories of Richard are his sons, Matthew Arrington (Beth) of Charleston, SC, Joshua Arrington of Hopkins, MN, and Benjamin Arrington (Sarah) of Moncks Corner, SC; grandchildren, Sullivan, Remley, Hudson, Bergen, and Shelby; mother, Kathleen Arrington, of Vinton, VA; brothers, Randy and Donald (Angela); sisters, Patsy Farmer (Roger) and Phyllis Cox (Jim); nieces, Maria Schroeder (Patrick), Jordan Arrington; nephews, Nathan Dorsett (Marie) and Jacob Arrington (Kay); he is also survived by many cousins, grand nephews, grand nieces, as well as a host of many other friends and family.
The Arrington family would like to give love and special thanks to all those who prayed, helped, visited, and encouraged Richard through his many health challenges. Most of all, thanks be to God who gives us the victory through his son, Jesus Christ and his living word.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Jim Cox officiating. Intermittent will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
