The Life of Richard King Fischer

Richard King Fischer of Roanoke, VA passed away on March 17, 2024 with his family at his bedside. He was 68.

Born in Schenectady, NY, Richard moved to Roanoke as an infant with his parents as part of the growing General Electric family. He was a graduate of Patrick Henry High School. He graduated with a degree in economics from Virginia Tech in 1977. His career started in banking, working at Colonial Bank and later at Dominion Bank. In 1993, he decided to pursue a career in investments and became an investment broker with AGEdwards until 2006, when he joined Davenport and Company LLC. He was Vice President of Investments, working there until his death.

Richard is predeceased by his parents, George and Peggy Fischer and an infant daughter Meredith Paige Fischer. Survivors include his loving wife Martha of 10 years; son Bradley (Rachel) and daughter Ashleigh Musick (Matthew); grandchildren Daniel and Jacob Fischer; stepdaughters Laura Brooke Rich (Kyle Counce) and Kathryn Tapp (Nick); step grandchildren William Rich-Counce, Kathryn Rich-Counce, Nathan Tapp, Aiden Tapp, Benner Tapp and Charlotte Tapp. Other survivors include his aunt, Lois Miller, cousins Nancy Morrow (Bob) and John Miller (Sandy) as well as his first wife Cheryl Fischer.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening March 26, 2024 from 6:30-8:30 pm at Oakey’s South Chapel. A service will take place Wednesday March 27, 2024 at 3pm at Oakey’s South Chapel with the Rev Keith Olivier presiding, followed by a reception at Oakey’s. A private graveside service will follow on Thursday morning with the Rev Joanna Paysour presiding.

The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Blue Ridge Cancer Center. Special thanks to the nurses and staff at Good Samaritan Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society or Feeding Southwest Virginia, 1025 Electric Rd, Salem, VA 24153.
