Raleigh, North Carolina - Hugh Stohler of Raleigh, NC, died Jan., 9, 2024, peacefully at home, surrounded by family and friends. He was 84.

Hugh is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sara, their two children, Sallie and Jacob (Lisa), his grandchildren, Sophie and Sara Stohler.

Born Sept., 24, 1939 to Edgar and Bernice Stohler in Jamestown, ND, Hugh grew up in Johnson City, TN and earned degrees from Vanderbilt and Drew Universities. Hugh served as a Methodist campus minister, Guilford College administrator, and elections coordinator in many countries with the UN.

Hugh and family moved to Raleigh's Historic Oakwood neighborhood in 1985, where they lived until his passing. Hugh is best remembered for his life of service, from get-out-the-vote efforts to volunteering for Passage Home, Emmaus House, and St. Mark's Episcopal. Hugh and Sara are remembered for giving their time and energy to causes that benefited their entire community.

Hugh's family will host a small Graveside Service on Sat., Jan., 13, 2024 at 12 PM in Oakwood Cemetery's green section. A Memorial Service will be held Sat., Jan., 20, 2024 at 3 PM at the Church of the Good Shepherd. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Malawi Children's Village to support and educate orphans.
